EVENT SCHEDULE

PANELS DESCRIPTIONS

Panel 1: What gets you inspired?

Every writer, no matter who they are and how many books or stories they've published, has trouble feeling the vibe at some time or another. Authors will talk about their writing routines and the ways they get themselves into the zone when ideas and words are elusive. The panel will share their tricks to writing deeply, emotionally, and consistently.

Panelists

Kate Castle, Leigh Hays, Miranda MacLeod, Kate Rounds, Anne Shade

Moderator

Ann Aptaker

Panel 2: What it's like to self-publish

Writers are drawn to self-publishing for different reasons. Some want to have control of their process, others don't want to query, still others don't want to share the income, and the list goes on. Self-published authors talk about why they decided to self-publish and what they've learned along the way.

Panel 3: Supporting diversity in sapphic literature one conversation at a time

Diversity in the world of sapphic literature is a hot topic, yet it's one of the hardest things to talk about. Whether it's being afraid of saying the wrong thing, exposing our lack of understanding, or being tired of feeling uncomfortable, unless we're talking to people who are exactly like us, we find ourselves self-conscious about having real conversations about diversity. Let's talk about it.

Panelists

Panel 4: The expectations vs the realities of being a writer

Book signings and raking in the royalty checks aren't the only things it takes to be a writer. First, there is, of course, the actual writing. Second, there is more writing. And third, yes, even more writing. But there is even more to it than that. Listen to writers tell their stories of how they discovered that there is more to writing than they may have expected.

Panelists

Panel 5: I write what I want! Give it up for Multi-genre writers!

Some people find it difficult to write in one genre, let alone multiple. How do the writers who cross the genre line do it? Why do the panelists choose to write in more than one genre? What are the benefits and the risks? Is there anything they would do differently if they were just starting? We'll find out by talking to some of them today.

Panelists

Maggie Cummings, KC Luck, Catherine Maiorisi, Rita Potter, Lydia Stryk

Moderator

Anne Shade

Panel 6: Where are my readers?

On the surface, sapphic writers have it made. Their readers are among the most voracious of the reading community. They're intense, they're loyal, and they're always asking for more. But just like any reader, they like what they like and they don't read just anything. How do writers connect with the readers they write for? This interactive discussion between authors and the audience will hopefully bring some insight into this question.

Panelists

Ann Aptaker, Louise McBain, Cheri Ritz, Cindy Rizzo, M. Ullrich
